Light Suits, Linen or Not?

With the better weather in Spring/summer (hopefully!) customers thoughts start turning to lighter weight fabrics.  Many years ago you would buy a heavy weight suit for the winter and a lightweight suit for the summer, but with most fabrics being fairly light now that isn’t necessary. Quality isn’t just defined by how heavy the cloth is any more and more and more buildings have either air conditioning or good heating so the suit isn’t just to keep you warm!

If people want light colours and weight sometimes the first choice is for a linen suit. Maybe you just want a light suit or maybe you are going off on a holiday or foreign wedding, either way the linen look is in.

Unfortunately though, as nice as linen is to wear, is does crease easily. Plus, if you go for a light colour it can mark easier which increases the dry cleaning bills.

Some firms have addressed this problem with suits that can look like linen but be harder wearing and occasionally also be washable.

One such suit is the Brook Taverner Esher suit. By combining cotton and linen you can get the look without most of the problems, plus it is machine washable, which is clearly no bad thing and as an added bonus it is mix and match.

Suits of this weight are available in various colours from different firms but the best selling colour is always going to be a natural colour such as beige. This being the colour that is always associated with TV journalists when they are reporting from some hot country.

But the other reason to look for colours such as this is to maximise your wardrobe, team up the jacket with some jeans or contrasting coloured trousers and you have a summer sports jacket!
