Wash or dry clean?

Not long ago a washable suit was unheard of but now for some firms it is becoming more and more common place. One such firm is Brook Taverner who has launched a washable cotton/linen suit.

With most wool suits and some linings machine wash just isn’t practical. The fabrics are too delicate and the linings are constructed in such a manner that if they shrink from washing the cut of the suit and the look of the suit are ruined.

Because of this the first washable suits tended to be basic fabrics such as 100% polyester, easy to look after but not particularly nice to wear. But now with advanced technology available it doesn’t have to be a basic suit to be washable.

One firm who have picked up on this are Brook Taverner who with a light coloured suit such as the Esher linen look clearly have a garment that would show marks easily. So the ability to wash it rather than spend a fortune dry cleaning all the time is an absolute must.

The Esher suit couldn’t be easier to look after. With every suit you get a washing bag, which you just pop the suit into. There are no special features of the bag as its main purpose is just to stop the jacket flailing around in the washing machine, thus stopping any buttons or other parts of the suit being caught and damaging the garment.

Clearly a great idea, unless of course you are a dry cleaner!
